Election 2017 features unopposed Kincaidacy

In contrast to the recently completed political roller-coaster ride, the spring election is shaping up to be pretty sedate – at least in the Chippewa Valley. In the city of Eau Claire, the only candidate for City Council president will be the incumbent, Kerry Kincaid, who has held the position since 2009.

There are no other council seats on the April 4 ballot. Things will be similarly quiet in the race for Eau Claire school board, with three candidates – incumbents Aaron Harder, Jennifer Fager and Charles Vue – running for three seats.

In Chippewa Falls, meanwhile, Mayor Greg Hoffman and three City Council candidates are running unopposed. The only council candidate facing opposition is Third Ward incumbent CW King, who will face challenger Steve LaBelle. Two seats will be up for grabs on the Chippewa Falls school board, and incumbents Pete Lehmann and Amy Mason will face challenger Ross Spitz.

In Menomonie, there will be no contested City Council seats, while four people are seeking three school board seats: incumbents Jeff Jaeger and Amy Riddle-Swanson and challengers Daniel Paulson and Heather Klanderman.

Because 2017 is an odd-numbered year, only nonpartisan statewide offices are up for election. Supreme Court Justice Annette Ziegler is running unopposed, while Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers faces two challengers: John Humphries and Lowell Holtz.
