Twin Cities Comic Robert Baril to Record Album in Eau Claire

Standup Records comedian brings biting humor to Plus

Eric Christenson |

When Twin Cities comedian Robert Baril headlines The Plus on Jan. 21 in Eau Claire, he’ll be bringing recording gear to get the show on tape. Baril is a smart political comedian whose trademark brand of lacerating humor has made him a quickly rising figure in Minneapolis in recent years. With zingers like “Yesterday, I went to church, or as I like to think of it: extreme book club,” and “I have an uncle that’s so anti-immigration he refuses to listen to the band Foreigner on principle,” Baril has made a name for himself in the fantastic Minneapolis comedy scene by using his sharp wit to cut through the dense and divisive issues of the day with a goofy twist. Baril previously headlined The Plus in 2015 and opened for Sean Patton at the venue in October, so he’s no stranger to Eau Claire audiences – in fact, he liked them so much he wants them on his upcoming album forever. The forthcoming album will debut on Standup Records – a Minneapolis-based comedy record label that’s put out releases from comics like Patton Oswalt, Joan Rivers, Marc Maron, and Western Wisconsin’s own Mary Mack – sometime next year. So it’s pretty cool that it gets to happen here in Eau Claire. The night is split into two shows with doors opening at 7pm and 9pm with shows starting at 7:30pm and 9:30pm respectively. Just remember, be nice, put your phones away, and laugh a lot!
