All Aboard! CV Museum readies annual Holiday Toy Train exhibit

Barbara Arnold |

Experience something akin to The Polar Express by checking out the Holiday Toy Trains display at the Chippewa Valley Museum Between Nov. 25 and Dec. 27. Three tinplate toy trains – originals dating back to 1910-1940, as well as reproductions, all decorated for the holidays – will be whizzing around three separate triple tracks on a mini-landscape that includes a toy dairy farm, Fort McCoy, log cabins, and more. The standard-gauge train display will cover 384 square feet in the museum’s auditorium. New in 2016 is the Tuesday evening “Night Trains” during which the auditorium lights will be dimmed so visitors can have the thrill of the trains and landscape lit up. On Tuesdays, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand with free candy canes, along with a coloring book and conductor’s hat courtesy of Operation Lifesaver Inc. The exhibit opens Friday, Nov. 25, from 1-5pm, and will be open through Dec. 27 from 10am to 5pm Saturdays, from 1-5pm Sundays, and 5-8pm Tuesdays. Get your ticket, then get aboard!
