A Windy New Film From Kalispell

Shane Leonard’s folk project is finally ready for round two with a new record in June

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from Shane Leonard, the driving force behind Kalispell, an Eau Claire-based folk band. Kalispell’s first record, Westbound, came out in 2012 and contained a catalog of hushed folk gems, stories of travel, and an acoustic sprawl that pulled in some of the Valley’s best musicians. Since then, Leonard’s been splitting time between solo stuff and drumming for Field Report and JE Sunde. But now we finally have a taste of some new Kalispell music from a forthcoming record called Printer’s Son. Music blog Stereogum premiered the first single called “Windfall” on April 4. It falls nicely next to Leonard’s previous stuff, but this new track has more pointed percussion, a more driving rhythm, and a thrust of new energy behind it. Printer’s Son is set to release on Cartouche Records on June 3. To hear “Windfall,” head over to www.soundcloud.com/cartoucherecords
