original musical drama offers biblical tale for Easter

Nikki Lanzer |

The entertainment in store this Easter season goes far beyond some giant bunny and a bunch of dip-dyed eggs. For this holiday, Scene and Hurd Productions will deliver its latest stage drama, The Widow of Nain: The Passion of the Christ. Performances will take place at Eau Claire’s State Theatre March 24 and 25. In this musical interpretation of a biblical narrative, one woman is forced to cope with the daily challenges of being a widow in ancient Palestine. Despite being left to care for her only son, her adverse circumstances have proven only to strengthen her remarkable trust and resilience. The God-fearing mother holds onto her belief in the midst of trial, counting each and every blessing as it comes. Yet when the one thing she still has left – her child – falls ill, she must somehow brave the ultimate test of faith and rely on the miracles of the Messiah. Scene and Hurd Productions was established in 2000 under the inspiration of writer and director Karen Hurd. The community-based theater company performs original works, making each and every production an audience surprise. Open to people of all talents and skill levels, Scene and Hurd strives to foster theater involvement. So don’t forget to schedule in some drama time this Easter – the eggs will still be there when you get back.
