Charles Schultz’s characters from the classic comic strip “Peanuts” are currently making their debut on the big screen, but they wouldn’t be there without the help of UW-Stout arts alumni. 1994 Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate Jason Sadler was part of the creative team that brought Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy and the rest of the “Peanuts” Gang to animated life in the movie, which debuted on November 6. Sadler, an artist with Blue Sky Studios, which helped produce the “Peanuts” film, worked on character development for the project for six months of production. The computer-animated feature film is already a hit, earning more than $120 million at the box office and counting, and it’s partly due to the realistic characters. It was quite the challenge for Sadler and his team to create 3D animated characters that remained loyal to Schultz’s two-dimensional comic book depiction of them, but the team pulled through, recreating the “Peanuts” gang realistically in animated 3D form. The “Peanuts” film was in production for about three years and involved the talents of over 400 artists, animators and editors, but make sure to look for Sadler’s name on the big screen as the credits role.
