Film Lovers Flock to Flyway Film Festival

Nicole Lanzer |

Get your popcorn and Milk Duds ready: The eighth annual Flyway Film Festival will kick off Wednesday, Oct. 21, at its Pepin home base and will continue through Sunday, Oct. 25. The yearly event – designed to honor the work of both long-time industry professionals as well as silver-screen amateurs – will commence its packed schedule of activities with a party Wednesday night at Pepin’s Villa Bellezza winery. A screening of the opening film The Driftless Area, featuring John Hawkes, Zooey Deschanel, and Anto Yelchin, will take place the following evening. Ever since 2008, when founder Rick Vaicus set the first Flyway into motion, this week in October has come to signify a time of transformation for the cities of the surrounding area. Countless moviegoers flock to the river towns of Pepin, Stockholm, Alma, and Maiden Rock – all home to the various movie and event venues – to enjoy great films and great atmosphere. This year, in addition to the short and feature-length films themselves, visitors can expect a host of musical performances as well as various workshops and mentor sessions held by industry experts. In any case, the eighth annual Flyway will surely have everyone reeling in anticipation.

Tickets are available for purchase on the event website: flywayfilmfestival.org.
