Cold Country Gets Raw on Debut Hip Hop Effort

Eric Christenson |

On his brand new debut album as Cold Country, rapper Steven Lundy isn’t pulling any punches. The album, titled Life As A Drifter: The Love & Hate Project finds Lundy raw and unrelenting behind the mic. From harsh breakups to lonesome nights, Lundy uses dark imagery and lightning fast vocabulary to get his innermost feelings out there in the open. On “All I Have To Give,” he’s rapping 100 miles per hour as his thoughts jump back and forth and a crunching, shadow-covered beat slinks behind. But Lundy’s not afraid to take turns for the emotional, like he does on slow-burning piano ballad “Glass House.” He explicitly pleads and pleads not sure if there’s emotional catharsis to be found. It’s a deep effort for his first album out of the gate. Cold Country and pals will be celebrating the release of “Life As A Drifter” at Every Buddy’s Bar in Chippewa Falls on Sept. 5., hosted by Midwest Mayhem.
