Stagnation” by Michael Marcon
Mixed media on hardboard 16” x 24”

Michael Marcon creates both commercial art for the poster market and personal paintings & mixed media art which is done under his Michael Mathews & Neuro-Boy monikers.

“For 12 years I worked as a production artist creating art for the commercial market. Recently I lost my exclusive publishing deal so I’m taking some time to explore my personal art. ‘Stagnation’ is an example of a direction where I’m exploring image appropriation and pure abstraction. Ideas and feelings of ‘timeless time’ and momentary bursts of ego and creation are recurring themes. I’m calling these portfolio works ‘transient colors.’ My father passed away last year and while going through his things I found this photo of a locomotive. He loved trains! A good symbol of tradition and male progression. Reversed image could call for reflection. Did I make him truly proud? Did I live up to his expectations?”  – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter
