Eau Claire's Big Plan Needs Your Input

Tom Giffey |

Just as buildings have blueprints, so do cities, and in Eau Claire that blueprint is known as the Comprehensive Plan. That hefty document – which covers everything from land use to parks, from economic development to improving the downtown – is in the midst of a once-a-decade revision. Since last September, an ad hoc committee of 40 city residents has met monthly to systematically discuss the plan and how it can best be updated to guide Eau Claire’s growth for the next decade and beyond. This diverse group has included City Council and Plan Commission members, neighborhood leaders, homebuilders, businesspeople, educators, environmentalists, and even some everyday citizens (such as the humble scribe who writes these words). Now that the draft plan has been vetted, debated, tweaked, and otherwise revised, it’s time for even more Eau Clairians to have their say on the updated Comprehensive Plan. The public is invited to a community forum about the plan from 7-9pm Tuesday, June 30, at the RCU Corporate Center in downtown Eau Claire. City consultant Bill Weber will offer a presentation on the draft plan, then answer questions from the public and take verbal and written comments. To learn more about the plan and the process of revising it (which will include City Council approval later this year), visit www.ci.eau-claire.wi.us or contact Darryl Tufte, director of community development, at (715) 839-4914 or Darryl.Tufte@eauclairewi.gov. Don’t miss this opportunity to shape your city’s future!
