It’s always to fun to see what people are naming their kids these days, so we can learn about cool new monikers – or scoff at the latest in trendy vowel swapping. So what local names ruled in 2014? Check it out: Mayo Clinic Health System reports that Eau Claire parents favored Oliver (1st), Colton (2nd), and Wyatt (3rd) for boys, with Grayson, Henry, Jackson, Liam, and Nolan proving popular as well. Meanwhile, Mayo says Nora was the most popular girls name with Adalyn, Aubree, Olivia, and Isabella tying for second, and Abigail and Evelyn tying for third. Mayo-delivered babies over in Menomonie leaned towards Mason (1st) and Owen (2nd) for boys, and Ella (1st) and Emilia (2nd) for girls. But that’s not all. Parents using the delivery rooms at Sacred Heart Hospital (Eau Claire) and St. Joseph’s Hospital (Chippewa Falls) had somewhat different naming preferences. Girls at Sacred Heart were most often called Olivia (1st), Nora (2nd), Elliana (3rd), Arianna (4th), and Amelia (5th), while boys were christened Jaxon (1st), Ayden (2nd), Colton (3rd), William (4th), and Wyatt (5th). At St. Joseph’s, parents liked Jayce (1st), Gavin (2nd), Easton (3rd), Jaxson (4th), and Gage (5th) for boys; and Emma (1st), Adaline (2nd), Evelyn (3rd), Abigail (4th), and Ellie (5th) for girls. 2014’s popular local baby names stuck only slightly to national trends. Nationwide, Sophia (1st) and Emma (2nd) were tops for girls, while Jackson (1st) and Aiden (2nd) led the boys.
