Development Plans Sought for Downtown Sites

V1 Staff |

The Eau Claire Redevelopment Authority is looking for developers who’ve got good ideas for the future of the former post office and a nearby parking lot on North Barstow Street. The RDA, which owns the two downtown parcels, recently released a request for proposals for the sites. The first site is where the now-vacant post office sits at the corner of North Barstow and Riverfront Terrace. While a new parking ramp will be built on the back portion of this site, the RDA envisions a mixed-use “liner building” along the street that would include both commercial and residential space. Likewise, the so-called Block 7 site – which is just to the north of the former post office – is considered a prime spot for mixed-use development. Currently, the block is a temporary parking lot used by JAMF and RCU employees during the workweek. Once the parking ramp is completed, however, the block will be open for redevelopment. The RDA recommends buildings that are compatible with the Phoenix Park neighborhood, in particular two- to four-story structures with commercial or retail space on the ground floor and offices or housing on the upper floors. Developers are asked to submit proposals by Wednesday, Dec. 10. To learn more, visit www.eauclairedevelopment.com and click on the “North Barstow Redevelopment District – Request for Proposals” link.
