A Sustainable Show

V1 Staff |

Local food and music are converging into a debut benefit for the UW-Eau Claire Foodlums, a group devoted to local foods and sustainable agriculture education. At 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, musical acts Hannah Hebl, Dexter Wolfe (of Rivers) and the Heart of the Heart will headline in the Phillips Science Hall Courtyard Garden, on the UW-Eau Claire campus. The event will feature locally grown and produced foods and local organizations that promote sustainability. A free-will donation is encouraged, and all proceeds will go to educating UWEC students about their food. The event is the brainchild of Marni Kaldjian and Maggie Ross, two summer grounds crew workers who work in the courtyard and realized the great acoustics. “The garden will be in its best form from our rain barrels to our urban apple trees,” Kaldjian said. “The local food movement is important for everyone’s health and well-being. If we minimize the stops from garden to plate, we create a closer community and more sustainable lifestyles.” For more info on the benefit email kaldjian@stolaf.edu
