“Fragile Ecosystems” by Christina Doffing
water-media and illustration, 9.5”x 13”

Christina Doffing hails from the Midwest and studies Illustration at UW-Eau Claire. Her influences originate from a passion for conservation of the environment and industries’ lack of regard for the natural world.

“My work is strongly influenced by issues concerning the conservation of the natural environment. The piece ‘Fragile Landscape’ is meant to reflect the balance between humans and the natural world. It specifically refers to the balance of a river ecosystem, such as the Chippewa River, and all of the creatures that rely on that thriving ecosystem to survive. I strive to create dynamic interactions in my work that help the viewer to reflect on their own feelings about these important issues. My aim in creating these editorial illustrations is to encourage a conversation about how we are manipulating our natural landscape and the effects that those changes will have on our environment.” – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter.
