School's Out for Summer – Unless You're a Rockstar

Steve Freuhauf |

Calling all rockers: The Eau Claire Music School is raising awareness about its latest project, “ECMS Rock Experience!” The two-week workshop, inspired by a similar program run by Mike Olson and the Madison Music Factory, offers a chance to perform in a band comprised of musicians with similar performance experience. EMCS offers two sessions, July 7-18 or July 14-25, during which bands will meet for two hours each day. During this time they will perform covers and write a couple of originals songs. A collective showcase will follow on July 26 giving each band an opportunity to perform in front of family and friends.  Those interested need to fill out and return an application to the ECMS. They will then go through a relaxed interview process in which instructors will test each applicant’s musicianship and music knowledge followed by an all out jam session. A $25 application fee is included along with an additional $300 giving those involved access to rehearsal and recording space, instruments, and a CD of their band’s recordings at the end of the workshop. Program Director Shawn Smets said it’s a great opportunity for people of all ages to learn how to play in a group and potentially continue on after the program ends.
