With spring finally here (and summer just around the corner) it is officially day-trip season. It’s a time to get your family and friends together, pile in the car, and get out of town for the day. What better way to kick it off than the 15th Annual Fresh Art Spring Tour, which runs June 6-8. This self-guided, road-trip-style tour features more than 30 artists at 15 different studios and galleries in Pepin County, southern Pierce County, and northern Buffalo County. With this many different locations, you are certain to find something of interest to you. The Accola Gallery in Durand features “plein air” paintings (that’s French for “in the open air”), a term used to describe paintings of scenery, which are often painted while outdoors. The Diane Millner Studio in Pepin will feature Michael J. Peters’ photographs portraying the land in and around Stockholm. For those seeking a third dimension, check out Little Plum Pottery in Plum City. This studio will feature wood-fired stoneware by Art Gannett and Barbara Andersen, as well as wheel-thrown and hand-carved birdhouses. And that’s just the beginning: In addition to these galleries, there are locations that have jewelry, sculptures, drums, textiles, gardens and wildflowers, and more. The best part is that each location is free to enter and enjoy between 10am and 5pm each day of the tour. The full list of locations, as well as a map to each open studio, can be found at FreshArt.org.
