The “Kaiserball” in Vienna, Austria, is a huge social event known for its grand elegance, and for 40 years that atmosphere has been reflected at UW-Eau Claire’s own annual Viennese Ball. Dressed in formal gowns and tuxedos, those attending can spend an exciting and relaxing evening enjoying a plethora of activities. Live performances by The Singing Statesmen, Two to Tango Dance Club, Women’s Concert Chorale, University Symphony Orchestra, a capella groups, and many more are among the most popular attractions. Dancing is highly encouraged as the Viennese Ball provides guests with the opportunity to waltz, polka, and swing dance to live orchestras, folk bands, and jazz ensembles in the spacious and ornamented Davies Center. Mime artists provide entertainment by staging themselves as living statues. The Edelweiss Market is also a popular destination with its locally crafted Austrian and European merchandise that complements the cultural atmosphere. Beyond Photography will help turn delightful moments into lasting memories as they offer professional photography for guests. In addition, dining specialties include tortes, sandwiches, and featured wines and beers from Austria, Germany, and the United States. There will also be a traditional Midnight Breakfast serving European and American dishes in a buffet style, allowing guests to relax and indulge in conversations with friends. The Viennese Ball provides entertainment for an array of visitors with a variety of interests and appreciations, and all proceeds go towards musical and international study scholarships for university students.
