Help Teens with Less Prepare for Prom Season

V1 Staff |

A local effort is making sure that, no matter what their financial circumstances, teen girls will be able to say yes to the dress of their dreams. Once Upon a Prom offers prom dresses and accessories to young women in the Chippewa Valley who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them. In return, participating girls must pledge to do six hours of volunteer work in their communities. Once Upon a Prom was founded by Jennifer Rooney and Liz Poteete, and is now in its third year. It’s been so successful that organizers expect at least 100 girls to take part over two days: 2-6pm Saturday, April 12, and 1-4pm Sunday, April 13, at the Salon Professional Academy, 3408 Mall Drive, Eau Claire. How can you help? Organizers are looking for clean, gently used dresses and accessories, which can be dropped off at Memorial, North, Regis, Menomonie, and Augusta high schools; at Boys and Girls Clubs (201 E. Lake St., Eau Claire, and 21 E. Grand Ave., Chippewa Falls); Williams Diamond Center, 2823 London Road, Eau Claire; Plato’s Closet, 3561 Gateway Drive, Eau Claire; and any WESTconsin Credit Union location between March 10-22.
