Eau Claire’s men (and women) in blue have a new commander. Jerry Staniszewski, who most recently was deputy chief of detectives for the ECPD, was appointed police chief Nov. 6 by the city Police and Fire Commission. “I’m very pleased with the result of our recruitment process,” said Keith Glasshof, the commission’s president. “Jerry is a competent and dedicated police professional and he will serve the community very well as police chief.” Staniszewski, 46, first joined the force in 1991 and since then has risen through the ranks and assembled an extensive list of credentials, including graduating from the FBI National Academy for Executive Development, chairing the Chippewa Valley Regional Forensics Lab Advisory Board, and coordinating the Eau Claire County Child Abduction Response Team. He replaces Jerry Matysik, who retired in October after a decade as Eau Claire’s top cop.
