“For Shirley” by Andrea Avery
10”x 6.5” | Acrylic, ink and milk paint on wood

Andrea Avery is an artist and the Community Arts Coordinator at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  She received her MA and MFA in studio Art from the Peck School of the Arts at the UW-Milwaukee.

“A lot of my inspiration comes from Chetek, the small Midwestern town I grew up in, traveling around the world and most recently moving from a large city back to a smaller one in Wisconsin that is surrounded by nature. I’ve been doing a lot of research on how cultures around the world use bird imagery in their folklore, poems and literature. This body of work is made up of small painted studies of birds; each one is symbolic to me of a person I once knew.”
