We believe birthday parties are cyclical. When you’re young, they’re huge, organized bashes with activates and prizes. Once you start to get older though, they dial down to a quiet dinner with friends and family. However, once you reach the age of, say, 141, we feel like the parties should come back with a vengeance. Luckily, 141 appears to be exactly the age the city of Eau Claire is turning this March. And so, The Local Store and Volume One are throwing a daylong birthday bash on Saturday, March 9. The celebration will start at 10:30am with a kids event featuring local singer/songwriter Justin Jay Arnold performing songs about Eau Claire for Eau Claire kids, along with some EC Bingo. At noon there will be a screening of the hour-long classic 1950s documentary film “Our Town Eau Claire.” Then, in the afternoon (starting at 2pm), there’ll be a birthday presentation featuring poems from city poet laureate Bruce Taylor, a local song by Phil Circle, a short and fun address by City Council President Kerry Kincaid, a “pageant” reenacting the founding of Eau Claire by the Memorial High School Improv Team and, of course, cake. Throughout the day there will be other activities like balloon animals, deals at The Local Store, and a “Pin The Axe On Eau Claire” competition where you can win up to 30 percent off your purchase. All in all, it’ll be a birthday bash you won’t want to miss.
