“Snowberries,” Ink and Watercolour, 9" x 12", 2010
by Brianna Capra

Brianna Capra is not a cat person. She says, "I use my magic pen to draw my world. I love drawing. Even as a little kid I wanted to illustrate children’s books.  My curiosity and imagination has led me to explore many art forms. I have illustrated posters, logos, books, and albums.

I created ‘Snowberries’ for a portfolio exhibit at the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators 2010 Winter Conference in New York City. This piece is a tribute to two of my favorite illustrators, Elsa Beskow and Beatrix Potter. I have learned much about color and composition by studying the work of other artists who inspire me. When I teach drawing classes, I emphasize finding an artist who’s work you love then copy them. We learn so much from the ‘masters.’ ‘Snowberries’ has been used in greeting cards and prints, and has been one of my best sellers.
