On October 19 through the 21, a visitor from Tibet will be coming to Wisconsin.  The Tibetan master Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche will be about an hour from Eau Claire, at the Community Center in Ridgeland, Wisconsin, to give several talks on Buddhism. Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche was born in Tibet in 1924, giving him plenty of time to gather wisdom, and is widely recognized as one of the great masters of the Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism.  He is highly accomplished in meditation, philosophy, and monastic arts.  He is known and loved for his ability to teach clearly and concisely with compassion and wisdom. In his book, Darma Paths, Rinpoche states, “The situation is far from hopeless because...we all have a spark of goodness in us, a powerful potential for developing warmth, openness, tenderness, sanity, and an incomparable sense of well-being and richness that cannot be approached by material or physical wealth and comfort.” So how did he end up coming to Wisconsin?  A student of his who is now also a monk, Lama Yeshe, invited Rinpoche, and this is his second time coming to Wisconsin.  Yeshe says, “He will not retire because he is so dedicated to the teachings.” As for the specific events, Friday evening will be a public talk geared to all levels of experience, called “The Importance of Compassion in Tough Times.”  The lectures on Saturday and Sunday will give more specific information and strategies to apply the practices to your daily life.  Saturday evening will feature a refuge vow, followed by “The 1000-Armed Chenrezig Empowerment,” for those who have a serious interest.  No pre-registration is necessary to sign up for the events; you can simply show up.  There is a cost attached, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
