Area Support Group Focuses on Meeting Needs of Latino Community

El Centro de Conexión of the Chippewa Valley is gaining prominence as the area’s Latino resource center, having hosted family nights (for mingling and improving Spanish), parties, and holiday celebrations throughout the past year. El Centro de Conexión is a non-profit organization that aims to meet the needs of local Latino families in the Chippewa Valley by creating a safe and welcoming environment for various cultures, enriching through education, putting on social gatherings and teaching those of various cultures how to work together. The organization often collaborates with local hospitals and clinics, schools, colleges, financial institutions, government organizations, non- profit affiliates, and members of the community, aiming to connect long-standing local organizations and companies with those of the Latino Community. El Centro started when Chippewa Valley residents wanted to address the needs of the growing Latino population. The mostly-bilingual group of volunteers grew throughout the year, as did their priorities: to develop awareness for the cause, create a healthy communication between various cultures and provide resources where families can connect.  More information about the cause, upcoming events (que divertido!), and ways to contribute can be found at www.elcentrocv.org.
