“Mrs. Bean, aka Bizzy Bee, is perhaps the only dog in Putnam Heights to have, not only one, but two! portraits of herself  appear on the cover of Volume One. Cute as a button, the little charmer entertains us daily with her quirky Bostonian ways. She thinks all pets deserve a portrait!  And, we are willing to bet, your pet agrees. We can make it happen! Visit me, and Mrs. Bean (among others, esp. Lola The Lovely One) on FaceBook...www.facebook.com/gschellinger and like my page, Painted Pets, for updates on my Animal Art Adventures, including the ever popular and sought after Stitchy and Stuffy (as seen at the Banbury Art Crawl).” – The Artist

What we were thinking: "This piece comes from local artist and Volume One cover art veteran Gail Schellinger of Eau Claire. The adorable boston terrier's eyes trigger plenty of emotion, but with our Pet Project special section tucked inside the issue, it's a perfect match. On the technical side, the little terrier is positioned to the side and looking back over his/her shoulder. The diagonal line of the dog's back coupled with the ears that point into a soft green linear gradient create dynamic focal points and also allow space to install the Volume One masthead. The texture within this gradient is a neutral backdrop that really accentuates the dogs facial features and fur." – V1 Designer Josh Smeltzer

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter.
