Kristen Korkowski, a student at UW-Stout, is becoming well known for her fabulously folky YouTube covers. What started as a mere outlet to allow her family to keep up on her music has turned into a full-fledged passion including restyled covers of popular artists and writings of her own.

Inspired through the many interpretations of songs, Korkowski decided to add her folky creativity to the mix to create spin offs that could appeal to those with different musical appreciations.

“It’s brought people to my music who would have never found it otherwise, and I have met some extremely kind and supportive people that way,” explains Korkowski. She goes on to explain that her YouTube covers (of artists like TLC, Robyn, The Ramones, Kanye, Death Cab, Regina Spektor, and AC/DC) have truly expanded and diversified her fan base as individuals from around the world have reached out to her about her music.

As mentioned, Korkowski writes her own music; however not as much as she would like. She started out pursuing a degree in music, but soon changed as she realized studying music all day, every day made her less willing to work on her own. Instead she is taking up early childhood education to, as she puts it, “teach the small children the ways of the world.”

She doesn’t label the style of her music because it is diverse, but she will admit some of it tends to be folky; however, her latest work reflects more of an ambient style. You can check out Korkowski’s creations on Bandcamp, ReverbNation, and YouTube.
