Menomonie is giving people around the country something to be jealous about. Director/producer Steven Meyer will visit the city and Stout campus for three days in early November, culminating with the world premiere of his award-winning documentary Buried Prayers on November 7 at the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts. Hosted by UW-Stout, this event is free to the public and occurs at precisely the same time when the film will also be premiered in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York; qualifying it for Academy Award consideration. Brimming with emotion, Meyer’s documentary follows Meyer and four Holocaust survivors as they return to the Maidanek death camp to unearth personal valuables buried at the location in 1943 when prisoners in the camp realized they were going to die. More than 170,000 people were believed to be killed at the location, and the expedition unearthed more than 80 items resulting in a dramatic release of those people and their prayers. Buried Prayers has already won Best Documentary at the 2010 Cinequest Festival in San Jose, CA.
