Yet another local face has been making the rounds on national television. A 1997 graduate from North High, David Hodorowski studied theater arts at UWEC and, after relocating to the east coast in 2001, juggled further studies at Rutgers University with weekly Second City improv classes. Through Second City, Hodorowski began to explore stand-up comedy and met his mentor, veteran comedian Ron Poole, who offered to help Hodorowski hone his comedic chops and, even more importantly, valuable stage time at weekly stand-up shows in New York City. “Stand-up is a tough biz,” says Hodorowski. “You have to be out there all the time and constantly be networking to find the next gig.” His persistence and quick wit earned him 2006 Best Male Stand-Up MAC Award nomination. In addition to the New York comedy clubs and an engagement at The Improv in Los Angeles, Hodorowski has appeared on MTV, CBS, Fuse, Lifetime, and most recently as a guest commentator on VH1’s Morning Buzz. His diversified resumé also includes appearances on Million Dollar Password and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, for which he reflects, “All I could think was, ‘Look at this, I’m just some kid from Eau Claire and I’m working with Martin Scorsese!’ ” As for the future, Hodorowski remains busy promoting his stand-up, auditioning for television and commercials, and has an even bolder ambition: “I want to be a German movie star. Or American. I don’t care as long as they switch from Hasselhoff to Hodorowski in a timely fashion.”
