Since 2000, Eau Claire area schools and artists have been participating in the Art on the Bus movement where they help to beautify public transportation. Coordinated by Paula Gorski, Art on the Bus, is a public art project that brings together neighborhood schools and the Eau Claire Transit to present art in an unique way. Each year Gorski chooses a theme for a community bus that is open for artists of all ages to design according to a predetermined theme. This year it’s Before the Frost and includes images of flowers and other plants submitted by Deb Lewis, Rebecca Crowell, Brian Steele, Jason Anhorn, Angela Joadwine, Gail Schellinger, and Jason Stabenow. The images will run until September on bus #511. Bus drivers and riders have noticed the artwork and found it to be more upbeat and appealing than the usual advertisements. Right now there are six buses displaying about 50 pieces of artwork from youth artists, and Gorski would love to add two of the brand new EC Transit buses to have eight buses running daily, which would mean each school would have two buses to display on. Bus routes change daily so contact EC Transit to find out where you can catch the featured buses each day. Photos:
