UW-Eau Claire has officially kicked off its spring film series with popular releases from the past year (District 9 and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), but there’s plenty yet to come. Starting Feb. 3 is Metropolis, Fritz Lang’s sci-fi masterpiece with 25 minutes of newly discovered and incorporated footage. And, of course, it wouldn’t be spring without the special screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show on Feb. 18. The rest of the bill combines popular recent releases – European award winner The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, stop-motion animated Fantastic Mr. Fox, and the Coens’ A Serious Man – with cult favorites from yesteryear, including rom-com High Fidelity, slapstick parody Top Secret, and spaghetti western The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly. The recent foreign films Restrepo, a war documentary, Red Light Revolution, a Chinese melodrama, and The Secret in Their Eyes, an Argentinean crime drama, will also be worthy of attention.
