Since playing the Ramble Round Pub Crawl last summer, 4onthefloor has started to become a semi-regular player in Eau Claire’s music scene. This four-piece blues-rock outfit from Minneapolis has three guitarists, one drummer, and four kick drums. That’s right – count ’em – four kick drums (one for each of them). Their four on the floor (hence the moniker) isn’t so much a gimmick as it is a visual and aural treat that literally adds kick to their stompin’ tunes. Their track Workin’ Man Zombie is the best blues-rock jam this writer has heard since The Black Keys released their Brothers album last May, and it doesn’t just incite toe-tapping – it demands it. They cite such influences as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and you can hear the combination of Delta blues and garage rock in their original tracks as well as their covers (of bands like Wilco, Big Joe Williams, and Tom Jones). The fact that they’re often paired with The Gentle Guest (their upcoming show included) is suiting, since Guest’s genre-crossing compositions attract similar beer-drinkin’ and foot-stomping sensibilities. The Duluth-based four-piece rock band Dirty Horse is the opener for what should be one helluva show.
