Local's Zombie Comic and Short Film Get Big

Trevor Kupfer |

While at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Jay Reiter developed a four-page comic called Arise about one man versus a zombie holocaust. For his final project, he developed it into a 17-minute short film. And while it may sound like typical college comic-junkie fare, the product and national tie-ins have officially captured our attention. Not only does the film feature local actress Isabella Selin and metal band No Loving Place, but also has tracks from massive metal institutions Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth. Yeah. It’s a big deal. Locals can catch the film at House of Rock, at 1am (after Nameless Feeling), on Oct. 30. But the ride doesn’t stop there, Cannibal Corpse artist Vince Locke is inking a full comic for Arise, and Jay is developing tons of merch (action figures, video games) and is determined to stretch it into a feature film in the future. Keep an eye on his progress, see a preview of the film, and read the original comic at AriseUndead.com.
