Local Blues Trio Covers New Ground on New Album

Trevor Kupfer |

Released a few weeks ago at the Tuesday Blues in Owen Park series, popular blues trio The Pumps now have a debut album under their belts. Suitably titled Cover to Cover, the album features 14 tracks taken from other celebrated artists such as The Beatles, Tom Waits, Bo Diddley, and Memphis Slim. All of the up-tempo tunes are played in the style of foot-stompin’ classic rock, but none are better than their renditions of Muddy Waters’ Forty Days and Forty Nights, John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom, and BB King’s Rock This House. The sound has worked for Tom Brill (guitar), Frank Juodis (drums), and Buck Barrickman (bass) for the past six years, as they’ve played in bars and at festivals and fairs. The CD is $13, available for order and free preview at ThePumpsBand.com.
