A Benefit with the Blues

‘Magic Deb’ benefit concert taps titans of local blues

Howard and Deb Luedtke betwixt tunes.

The blues have a rich tradition and close following in the Chippewa Valley, from the Blues Society and their series in Owen Park to Shari’s and the massive Blues on the Chippewa event. Yet when it comes to blues in our area, one name always comes to mind; one name stands out; one name is synonymous with the blues genre: Luedtke. For about three decades Howard and Deb Luedtke have exhibited their appreciation of the musical equivalent to apple pie, baseball, and Westerns – and now we need to show appreciation for them. “Deb Fest” brings together a veritable “who’s who” in area blues, not only to celebrate the music but also to celebrate life, as the proceeds of said event go toward the medical bills Deb has accrued in her battle with breast cancer. At 11 there’s Howard and Jim Schuh, then Little Willie goes on around 1, followed by the Boiler Makers at 2:30, the Pheromones just after 4, Mojo Lemon at 6, and headliner Fully Loadid at 8. “It is really amazing how many awesome friends have helped out already and how many more are willing to show their support,” Deb wrote on her blog through HowardLuedtke.com. “It’s humbling that we have made an impact on the blues scene. Thanks to all that are taking the time to support us – we’ll never forget it. … It will be so great to get out again, I have so dearly missed playing, traveling, and seeing everybody.”
