internationally known collage art coming to Foster Gallery

“Some of the big names in contemporary collage are coming to Eau Claire,” said Jill Ohm, the curator of the (re)Visions:(di)Visions art show, coming soon to the Foster Art Gallery on the UWEC Campus. There will be about 40 pieces of work from 12 nationally and internationally known artists from all over the US, Canada, and even Europe. Their work has been shown in prestigious museums around the world, in cities like Glasgow, Tokyo, NYC, and Belgrade, just to name a few. The art works range in material, scale, and complexity, featuring a variety of photography, ceramics, fabric, found objects, and more. “The exhibition hopes to expand the idea of collage as both a mode of making art, as well as the conceptual idea of using parts and pieces to create something new,” said Ohm, and even referred to the title of the exhibition itself as a collage of words, broken up then merged back together. So in this instance, you are “seeing again” what is or has been “separated.” This eccentric idea and art will make you think, and is easily open to interpretation, so it appeals to everyone in a different way. Maybe even bringing together the people to view the art could be a collage in itself? Extra cool bonus: Artist Jeffrey Porterfield will be coming from New York to give a free gallery talk on Nov. 13 at 10 am.
