Low

a solid 16 years on the indie scene, and still going strong

Sparhawk sandwich.

Low is a band of dichotomies. They’re rockstars who bring their kids with them on tour. Alan Sparhawk (the driving force behind the band) is a Mormon who likes to drink. Heck, even their music gets quieter as other bands turn up the gain. Yet, it is these things that continue to spawn even bigger audiences for these guys. Sparhawk, along with his wife Mimi, have been creating soft, thoughtful indie rock for 16 years. Think about that, what were you doing 16 years ago? I bet it didn’t lead you to a slot as Radiohead’s opening band on their European tour. It probably didn’t lead you to a slot on Subpop’s super-influential indie rock roster. It probably didn’t even net you a bunch of songs on The OC soundtrack (for shame). What I’m trying to say is this: Stout has nailed it again. They’re bringing in an established name that not only will put student butts in the seats, but also give people with a greater appreciation of music a reason to go out to the show. To my knowledge, Low has never played in the area because Low doesn’t play in bars (although Sparhawk’s other bands have played many times,) so this is basically the only time to see them in our neck of the woods. I’m excited, are you?
