5 Radical Regions to Rock Climb

1. UWEC Climbing Wall McPhee Education Building, UWEC upper campus • www.uwec.edu/recreation/climbingwall • 836-5601 • The wall is open Sunday through Thursday from 6:30 to10:30pm. Rising 65 linear feet including a corner, and standing approximately 28 feet high, you are not about to get bored. The actual climbing surface area is approximately 2,500 square feet. The wall is open to faculty, staff, students, and the community. Those under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. An orientation class is required for first timers and a skills proficiency is required for experienced climbers.

2. UW-Stout Climbing Wall 41 Sports & Fitness Center, UW Stout • 232-1392 • Stout Adventures has two 30-foot climbing walls with 11 ropes and more than 40 routes to challenge all skill levels. Two sport routes are also available. No experience is necessary. Routes are designed for beginners and experienced climbers.

Devil’s Lake S5975 Park Rd., Baraboo, Wis. • www.devilslakewisconsin.com • 608-356-8301 • If you are hungry enough for breathtaking beauty and some fun rock climbing opportunities, two-and-a-half hours south of Eau Claire is a outdoor enthusiast’s haven. Devil’s Lake is about 10,000 acres of breathtaking rock bluffs, lake, and forest.

4. Taylor Falls 307 Milltown Road, Taylor Falls, Minn. • 651-465-5711 • If you are itchy to escape the gym for death-defying feats on real rocks and don’t mind an hour drive, check out Taylor Falls. Located along the serene St. Croix River, it’s a popular rock climbing site with tons of different climbing routes available. Caters to more experienced climbers, though intermediate and beginners are welcome. Climbing permits required.

5. Action City 2402 Lorch Ave, Eau Claire • www.actioncity.com • 838-9663 • Muster your courage for the wall of molten lava at the volcano climbing wall at Action City. Rising 26 feet and costing $4, this wall is good for the future daredevil.
