Feathe: sidewalk hazards.

Sweet, poppy, folksy, and soulful: everything you can expect from the Songstress Showcase at the Acoustic Café. Featured performers are Feathe (Jana Swanson and Alyssa Rieper), local favorites QuinnElizabeth, Hannah Malynn, Jessica & Rachel Long, Sarah Jade, Jill Sippel & Dawn Cripe, Rachel Hager, and Won Siemit. Each artist adds a unique sound to the folk genre, with beautiful results. Feathe considers these estrogen-packed performances as a much-needed meet-and-greet for new and/or overlooked female talent. “For singer-songwriters Rachel Hager and sister duo Jessica and Rachel Long, this will be their first show! They’ll be sharing their talents for the first time in front of a large audience, networking with other local musicians, and hopefully gaining resources to continue to perform locally,” said Jana. It is networking, but according to Hannah Malynn it’s also about the friendship and fun. “We always have a good time together, whether it’s jamming out and playing music or doing the whole girlie girl sleepover thing. There is usually a feeling of solidarity between all kinds of musicians; for me this is especially true with female artists.” Jana hopes the performer/friends pooling of resources will get the ladies’ voices heard. “The lack of girls in our local music scene is pretty obvious. The fact that there are only a handful of women that have released an actual physical album recently is proof enough. I want us to all come together to pool our resources. Something big is happening in Eau Claire’s music scene, and everyone should be a part of it!”
