Despite the seemingly perpetual angst between Atheism and traditional religious groups, once again Eau Claire shows everyone that it’s possible to all get along. What the heck am I talking about? I’m talking about a guy named Rev. Aaron who is starting up the “Church of Atheism” as a free-thinking discussion group for those who just don’t fit into current religious philosophy.

Aaron got the idea when a friend wanted to get married, but didn’t want a judge or traditional priest to do the ceremony. Aaron became ordained and began taking steps to legitimize his services as a non-profit organization that caters to people who are looking for non-traditional ceremonies. There have been some hiccups with the multitude of legal doings one needs to go through, one of the most interesting/troublesome being the attempt at registering a new religious society in the state, as apparently nobody has done so in years and nobody really knows the proper proceedings.

The most surprising thing, however, is the amount of support Aaron has received from religious groups in Eau Claire. He said the response has been very positive, and he is currently passing out fliers and information to groups and local crematoriums and funeral homes. He also has a couple of couples signed up to utilize his services, and he plans on holding discussion groups on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at his home.
