night of music at Skate America features Jamestown Story

There was a time when you would have never associated acoustic, alternative pop with roller skating, but nowadays it seems that anything is possible. As a testament to Eau Claire’s meltingpottitude, Skate America will be bringing those things together this month when they host the Minneapolis alternative act, Jamestown Story. Jamestown Story consists of a guy named Dane Schmidt who plays guitar and sings in that slightly-gravelly-yet-youthful sort of voice that everybody loves. A self-proclaimed independent artist, Jamestown Story exemplifies the idea that one guy that plays music can make a living doing what he loves. Originally called And Then I Turned Seven, Jamestown Story was renamed in 2007 and has since become known for earnest, heartfelt lyrics and a decidedly laid back feel. Embracing commercial operations trained mainly on the cutting edge of digital music vending, Jamestown is leaving the internet to tour around and promote his latest album, Love vs Life.  With dates spanning from Nebraska to New York, Jamestown will be making an acoustically pleasing stop in Eau Claire just in time for Christmas. Skate America is Eau Claire’s very own dazzlingly organized in-line, indoor skate facility, complete with mirror-smooth floors and decorations ranging at times from the moon landing to the White House. Skating plus music? I think they used to have a word for that back in the 70s, and that word was bootin.’ Let Jamestown Story bring it back.
